1. What Are You Practically Trying To Achieve?

  • This is a question we try to ask every individual homeowner during our free consultation visits. The point of this question is to help us as the contractor and you as the homeowner to be on the same page and this gives us more information to help steer you in the right direction that best fits your needs. Some homeowners want a fence for privacy, security, looks, or something that's just enough to keep the kids and pets contained.

2. What Look Are You Wanting To Have?

  • There several different styles of fences ranging from privacy wood, wrought iron, vinyl, decorative iron, or even custom fabrication. This question is important because fences can be expensive and we want to make sure your fence is EVERYTHING that you want it to be. If you want a modern fence then a horizontal cedar picket fence with black wrought iron posts with black trim would be the best option. If you want a traditional wood fence then a cedar board on board fence with corbels and elegant curved trim would be your best bet. Or maybe you need a fence on a budget, then a treated pine picket fence would be your best friend.

3. Accessibility:

  • Access to your backyard and to the rest of your property is extremely important,

obviously. As the homeowner have you thought about how many gates you would like to have? Do you want to be able to move your RV, boat, or car in and out of your backyard with plenty of clearance? Or maybe you might want a sliding gate with app accessibility so your kids can come in and out of the house if you are not home!

4. Stain (If You Want A Wooden Fence):

  • This is an important part of the process because if you do this wrong it could cost you! Choosing the best oil stain for your fence will be the cherry on top if applied correctly. However, there are other points to consider. For example, masking and drop clothes. You want to make sure the contractor who is applying this stain is properly covering your plants, concrete, swimming pools, outdoor furniture, etc. Now, not everything can be masked (tall homes, large obstacles, etc.) because it would make the bill extremely expensive. But no worries! If stain does spill or is blown onto an object we have ways to remove the stain without harming the object.

5. What Material To Use:

  • This will determine the overall look of your fence! When it comes to wood fences cedar wood is by far the best option for your project. Both Western Red Cedar and Japanese Cedar are superior to treated wood. Cedar wood will naturally resist wrought and decay, while treated wood is treated for those conditions but will not last as long as cedar. Cedar can wrought over long periods of time and sometimes can be wrought quicker than normal if not installed correctly. Lastly, when your fence is stained the cedar wood will accept the stain easier and the overall finish will be better when compared to treated. Treated wood can be stained but it takes more coats and will not achieve the desired shade of color you are trying to attain.
